The season has started strong in Geirlandsá, and early reports indicate excellent conditions.
We spoke with Sindri Hlíðar, who confirmed that the opening was very good — especially in Geitlandsáin, where fishing was exceptional right from the start. Since catch & release was implemented, the river has clearly been on the rise.
The opening day alone produced 162 Sea Trout, a number that speaks for itself.
From the photos, it’s clear that Geirlandsá is holding a significant amount of fish this early in the season — something anglers truly appreciate. The current management and conservation approach seem to be paying off.

If this strong start is any indication, Geirlandsá could be one of the most exciting rivers to follow in Iceland this season.
